Sojourner Place, Seattle

Home

Sojourner Place, located in the Seattle UW district, welcomes women in transition.  We help single or pregnant women get back on their feet as they overcome obstacles:

  • Homelessness
  • Substance abuse
  • Jail time
  • Domestic violence
  • Financial crisis

On any given night in Seattle and surrounding areas, it is estimated over 600 women are without shelter. For a glimpse at what it's like to be a homeless woman see part 6 of the Tyra Banks goes underground as a homeless woman, 7 part series on You tube.

Can we help you?  Women who are accepted at Sojourner House live here for up to a year while they work or take classes. Program fees are $365/mo. Sojourner Place provides a room and food, plus structure, life-skill classes and goal-oriented counseling.

Can you help us turn women’s lives right-side up?

City of Seattle Human Rights Commission, May 6, 2010, RE: Fairer access to affordable housing. These ladies gave testimony before the City of Seattle Human Rights Commission asking for the possibility of setting a precedent for former non violent felons seeking rental housing. Currently many landlords will not even consider a person with a felony as a potential/possible renter. Our ladies had researched this out. They found a legal precedent where it has been happening in Madison, WI since the late 1970’s and asked the Human Rights Commission to explore making this a precedent here so as to not discriminate against individuals with non violent felonies. The outcome is yet to be reported as they took the testimony and other input under advisement.  This all took place at May 6th following up on 6 weeks of training through the Mother Joseph Life Skills class, Justice Circles.
